Pet Wellness Starts with Prevention

At Sylvan Corners Pet Hospital, we know that prevention is the best way to keep your pet healthy and strong. We start with the wellness exam, checking your pet's heart, lungs, mouth, vision, ears, joints and muscles. We recommend you bring your pet in for a wellness exam once a year. This gives us the ability to find any potential health problems early so that we can treat the issue quickly.

We provide you with all the knowledge you need to better care for your pet from home. If you have a question about your pet's health, don't hesitate to call us and ask. Our friendly staff will be happy to help you and your pet.

We provide your pet with caring, professional care for your pet's long and healthy life.

Comprehensive Wellness Exam

Your pet's regular physical examination is important for your pet. Pets cannot tell you how they feel. We recommend a complete physical examination once a year. More frequent exams are recommended for older pets. The wellness exam includes the veterinarian listening to the heart and lungs, palpitating the abdomen and lymph nodes, checking ears, eyes, skin condition and documenting vitals, such as heart rate, pulse, respiration and temperature.

It is important for your pet to be examined by a trained and knowledgeable veterinarian to uncover health problems as they develop. Routine examinations provide your veterinarian with the opportunity to get a complete picture of your pet's health. Additionally, they can spot medical issues before they become health concerns. This gives you an opportunity to ask important questions about your pet's health care. We use this time to inform you about health care for your pet at home.

Caring for Aging Pets

For our patients that are over 7 years of age, we recommend a regular senior wellness exam and diagnostic workup. We check a complete blood count, biochemistry panel, thyroid levels, urinalysis and radiographs or ultrasound of the chest or abdomen, if needed. We can also measure blood pressures and EKGs in our older cardiac patients, if necessary. A retinal exam is often recommended in older cats.

Our pets are living longer and it is our goal to try to prevent problems or diagnose and treat them in their earliest stages. We value your pet's quantity and quality of life.
