Meet Our Staff
Our Veterinary Team
We have four veterinarians working seven days a week for your convenience. Friendly, dedicated and experienced in handling pets of all shapes and sizes, we welcome you and your pet to Sylvan Corners Pet Hospital.
We also have two licensed, registered veterinary technicians and other great support staff to help your pet. Three of our veterinary technicians at SCPH have over 50 years of experience combined. We try to create the best possible experience for the client and our patients.
Dr. Donna Folger, DVM
Dr. Donna Folger was born in New York City, New York. She moved to California at the beginning of high school and began working with large animals on farms with her father. She then decided to go to veterinary school and graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 1989. She began practicing in Fair Oaks, where she met Michelle, Lil, Tammy and Dr. Berger. In 1992, the practice owner at Fair Oaks decided to purchase Sylvan Corners Pet Hospital from a previous owner, and all five of them ended up moving to SCPH, starting a new era for the practice. Dr. Folger is one of our most experienced full-time veterinarians and is an amazing surgeon. She spends her downtime supporting her husband, who is an author, and raising her children. She always has a cat around the house and is currently looking for a border collie puppy, her favorite breed.
Dr. Christopher Sissle, DVM
Dr. Sissle graduated from the University of Florida School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. He then moved out to California with his family and began working in and around the Sacramento area over the next 10 years. Dr. Sissle joined our team 2 years ago and we couldn't be happier. His energy, enthusiasm and intelligence pushes the staff to reach for their own goals and sets an amazing example. He is a gifted surgeon and is often complimented on his ability to listen to the clients and pet's needs. He is a member of the CVMA, AVMA, SVVPMA and many other affiliations. He has two rescue Chihuahuas named Thor and Hulk. He is often at continuing education events, community events and mostly spending time with his two sons.
Dr. Tamara Carney, DVM
Dr. Tamara Carney received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas, where she received the honor of Summa Cum Laude, and her master’s degree from Boston University. She spent a few years working as a Volunteer Assistant with Dr. Jean Pfister in Switzerland. While in Switzerland, she helped Dr. Pfister work with small animals and large cats such as lions and tigers. She then decided to attend UC Davis and reach her goal to become a veterinarian. Among her graduating class, Dr. Tam was awarded the prestigious CVMA Award for Practice Excellence. She has two dogs, Henry (pictured) and Finn (Cockapoo), and one cat, Rosie. Dr. Tam spends her downtime reading, learning guitar and spending time with her husband, family and friends.
Catarina, Veterinary Assistant
“Cat” grew up in the Bay Area and is also a Carrington College graduate. She has worked at SCPH for the past two years. “Cat” is one of the most popular employees with the clients and also speaks Spanish for our Spanish-speaking customers. She truly enjoys working around animals in any capacity and is one of our hardest-working employees. We truly appreciate all that she does for our hospital.
Shelby, Veterinary Assistant
Shelby has worked at SCPH for the past 5 years. Shelby was also born and raised in Sacramento. She is a recent graduate of Carrington College and has a fondness for puppies and kittens. She loves to work and is always pitching in whenever something is needed.
Rosalind, Veterinary Assistant
Rosalind has been at SCPH for 13 years. Rosalind was born to care for animals and people. She loves to treat hospitalized animals and young animals. Rosalind was raised in Palmer, Alaska, and loves wildlife. She is often requested by clients when they need to bring their pets in for technician appointments and is a staff favorite. We are lucky to have her as part of our staff.
Matilda - Kennel
Matilda grew up in Citrus Heights and has worked at SCPH for the past 16 years. She has been in charge of our boarding facility and takes great care in providing for our clients’ pets. Clients call in to check on their pets, and Matilda will ease their worries with how much she gets to know all their little quirks in a short period of time. Matilda will also photograph and send updates to clients’ cell phones while they are on vacation, if requested. Matilda is a client favorite and is a valued member of our hospital team.
Valerie - Veterinary Assistant
Valerie grew up in the Bay Area. She has been working at SCPH for the past 16 years. She has experience working with large animals and cattle, but she much rather enjoys the company of canines and felines. She has spent part of her life in Texas, but has moved back to the area; we couldn’t be happier. She has an exceptional gift of being able to make sure all the little things get done. She has also been a vital resource in converting our hospital to a paperless medical system.
Tammy - Veterinary Assistant
Tammy has worked at SCPH for 26 years. She has been working in the veterinary field for over 35 years. She is the hospital's rescue coordinator, and donates countless hours to help many rescue agencies and animals around Sacramento/Placer County. She is one of the most technically gifted employees at SCPH and is usually in charge of training the new veterinary technicians.
Kayla - Veterinary Assistant
Kaylah joined our hospital this past year. She is currently enrolled at Carrington College. She is professional and kind. Clients and patients are already bonding with her. We could not be happier that she is part of our team. She has two felines at home named Rain and Midnight. She also has a Leopard Gecko named Aja. Camping is a favorite past time. She also loves spending time on the rivers and lakes of California.
Anthony - Veterinary Assistant
Anthony is one of our most recent additions at Sylvan Corners Pet Hospital. As a young high school student, Anthony had to choose between pursuing a college football career and serving his country in the Army. He chose the army, but an accident cut that dream short. He then decided to follow his life-long passion he had as a child which was to help animals. Anthony has worked around domesticated and wild animals for over 10 years. He worked at the wonderful Weimar Wildlife Refuge for 3 years. He has cared for tigers, bears, crocodiles and snakes. After working at the Refuge for a while he decided to go back to school and graduated from Carrington College in 2015. He is intelligent, professional and has the most gentle demeanor that the animals pick up on. With his free time he works with animal rescue organizations. He is also a black belt in three different forms of martial arts. There is not much that Anthony cannot do and we are glad to have him.
Allison - Customer Service Representative
Allison has worked in the customer service industry for 15 years. She joined our team this year and we could not be happier. Clients and pets have raved about her and the staff at Sylvan love her. She is gentle, funny and truly loves animals. She is articulate and can handle the pressure of working a busy hospital lobby. She greets all the clients when they arrive and no one feels forgotten. She has a Catahoula named Bisquit and a chug named Gizmo. In her free time she loves to garden, read and care for abandoned animals.
Marie - Veterinary Assistant
Marie has been working at Sylvan Corners Pet Hospital for the past four years. She is currently enrolled at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo studying for her Animal Science major. She hopes to eventually transfer to UC Davis and become a veterinarian. Marie is also an avid horse lover and has a Dutch Warmblood named Bo that travels to college with her. She is also a member of the US Pony Club and the US Eventing Association. Her animal family also includes two cats named Marshy and Lily. The family could not be complete without her Pekingese named Valentine. One day, we hope that Marie will come back to us as a veterinarian and she can join the team.
